Over-the-counter Teeth Whitening

Over-the-counter whitening solutions are easily found in most drug stores. Because they contain much lower concentrations of peroxide, they take much longer to achieve your desired whiteness. Also, without trays fitted to your teeth, it is harder to get an even application. Still, over-the-counter whitening can be a convenient way to improve the color of your teeth. If you choose to use these products, we recommend using a manufacturer well known for reliability and safety.

A word on whitening toothpastes: Whitening toothpastes can be too abrasive to your teeth for long term use. You can use whitening toothpaste to maintain whiteness but we do not recommend using it as your everyday toothpaste. At the same time, whitening toothpastes are less powerful than other methods of application because the whitening agents are only in contact with your teeth for a short amount of time as you brush. Therefore, whitening toothpastes are not an ideal method for whitening.
